Another Thinking Green |
|
Thinking green means conserving, re-using and recycling. Conserve stabilizer by hooping the corner of a larger piece, then trim close to the design. The remaining stabilizer will be good for many more hoopings. Conserve by patching the hole in sticky stabilizer with another scrap. Use water-soluble thread to sew together water-soluble stabilizer scraps to make a piece big enough to hoop (thanks to Marie of My Embroidery Haven for this tip). Re- use (or rescue) torn or stained clothing by embroidering over the bad spot, either directly or by making a patch. Transform hand-me-down clothing by embroidering a design chosen by the new owner (remember hand-me-downs?). Recycle old jeans to make a sturdy picnic quilt or a funky shoulder bag. Recycle old t-shirts to use for test-stitching (you can fit dozens of designs on an XL t-shirt!). Visit the thrift shop for old tablecloths and other fabric items for test-stitching. Sew your test stitch-outs together to make a tote bag, quilt or curtains. Next issue: embroidering for a baby |
