Compensation on Shapes

Compensation means correcting for the effect of push-pull. If you want to stitch a filled circle, but the sides are pulling and the top and bottom are pushing, that perfect circle will stitch a bit too tall and a bit too skinny unless you adjust the dimensions. If you make the circle wider (where the stitches change direction) and shorter (where the stitches are parallel), it will stitch perfectly. How much wider? How much shorter? Ah, that takes experience. With a plain fill, larger areas require less of an adjustment than smaller areas. Satin stitches will sew about 80% of the width seen on screen.
