Easy Flannel Baby Quilt |
|
Even if you have never made a quilt
before, you can make this easy flannel baby quilt. There is no
piecework. The front of the quilt is a single piece of flannel, and so
is the back. Quilters call this a "whole cloth" quilt. You
will need 1-1/2 yards of 45" wide solid color flannel for the
front, 3 yards of coordinating print flannel for the back and binding,
and a crib size cotton batting.
Click on the photo to download detailed instructions. The short version is that you pre-wash the flannel, square the cut ends and trim the selvedges to make two squares (as long as the trimmed flannel is wide). The rest of the print flannel is cut into strips to make binding. Embroider a design in each corner. The quilt shown above also has some appliqué hearts made from the print flannel. Layer the flannel with the batting in between. Pin, baste and stitch a grid pattern to create squares. Using your embroidery hoop, stitch a quilting design in each square. Finish the quilt by making a quilt label and attaching the binding. Whenever I present this gift at a baby shower, it is quite a crowd pleaser! Next issue: reporting errors |
