Combining Colors |
|
When selecting colors for a design, consider the color of the fabric and be sure the thread colors will complement the the fabric and each other. Not sure about the color choices? You have several options. If your embroidery software will allow you to select actual thread colors by number, and fabric color, you can simulate the stitch-out on screen. Take all the spools and place them on the fabric to see how the colors work together. When you visit the fabric store, if you see a print that has a pleasing color combination, buy 1/8 yard to bring home. Use these samples as references of colors that work well together. Be sure to also check your closet. Your favorite print blouse may have just the right combination of colors for your next project. Most designs come with a color chart, but you can adjust the colors to better express your personal style. If you are not sure, test-stitch the design to be sure the thread colors work together the way you want. Not sure about your
color sense? Invest in a book on color theory (or borrow one from the
library). Don't worry about color fads. Classic color combinations are
always in style. |
