Mixing Threads |
|
You have polyester thread, rayon thread, metallic thread, glow-in-the-dark thread and solar-active thread (and maybe cotton, silk and nylon). Can you use more than one of these in a single design? Absolutely! The main consideration is color. If you rummage through your threads and find that the best color choices for a particular design are a mix of polyester and rayon threads, then that is perfectly okay. Metallic thread, solar-active thread and glow-in-the-dark thread are best used as accents in a design that is otherwise stitched in polyester and/or rayon. A little bit of metallic will really sparkle against the other threads. Solar-active thread will be white indoors, so be sure that the design will have a pleasing appearance when the solar-active thread is white. This works well if part of the design is colorful (polyester and/or rayon) and only part changes color. For example, you could have a flower that changes from white to pink. For glow-in-the-dark thread, the design should be planned so that it will make sense when lighted (when the thread is usually white). Embroidering on a dark or colorful fabric will help the glow-in-the-dark thread to stand out. Or you could stitch a colorful garden scene on white fabric, with little bugs that only appear when the lights go out. Next issue: removing excess stabilizer |
