Time to Back-Up |
|
Yes, this topic has been addressed
before, but some of you are not backing up your embroidery designs.
Maybe we intend to do it "tomorrow", but never seem to find
the time. Maybe you figure the designer will send you replacement files,
so why bother. Most designers will not replace lost freebies. If a
designer closes her website, she probably will not send replacement
designs. The designer may want proof of purchase, which could be hard to
provide if your hard drive crashes. And everyone tells me their hard
drive crashes without any warning.
Earlier this week, I mistyped a popular URL and landed on a suspicious website. Right away, my antivirus software detected a trojan. I ran a scan, but the software could not identify the infected files. Windows restore was disabled. I began to panic. Who could I trust to fix my computer? How long would it take? How could I let customers know what was happening? What would I lose from my hard drive? But then I remembered I had run a back-up just 10 days earlier and was able to restore Windows from that back-up, using the Rescue and Recovery software that came with my computer. Whew! Find time this weekend to back up your embroidery files, and any other files that you value (pictures, documents, downloaded software, etc.). Copy them to an external hard drive, or CD or upload them to a web space designated for that purpose. Then hope you will never need the copies! Next issue: testing freebies |
