Trade Up? |
|
You want a larger embroidery hoop or
other advanced features. Is it time to trade up to a new machine? With
the economy in a slump, dealers may be willing to offer you special
financing or deep discounts.
If you find a new machine you cannot resist, do you keep your old machine or trade it in? Most dealers do not offer you much for your old machine, even if it is in "like new" condition.. You will likely get more money for it selling by listing it on eBay or Craigs List. Just be careful of bogus offers. In the best-known scam, the buyer offers to send you a check for significantly more than the selling price, instructs you to deduct whatever you need to cover the cost of the machine and shipping, then refund the balance. That would be fine except that you may eventually discover that the buyer's check is worthless and you will have sent the scammer money and your machine. If you do sell online, take lots of pictures to show the condition and all items included with the machine. List all the features and accessories. Or keep your old machine as a back-up, for giving lessons to a grandchild, or for sewing while your other machine is busy embroidering. Next issue: put yourself first |
