Selecting Thread Colors |
|
You see a beautiful design and you want to re-create it exactly. The design colors in the pdf file are for a brand of thread you do not use, or does not specify colors by thread number. How do you know what thread colors to use? If you really want to know exactly what thread colors the designer used, email her. You can convert to another thread brand. Your embroidery software may give you thread color equivalents. You can use the free
online conversion utility here: You can also buy conversion software such as My Threadbox. You may prefer to choose your own thread colors based on wanting sufficient contrast with the fabric, matching other colors in an outfit, personal preference for favorite colors or making use of threads you already have. You may want to use a metallic for a particular detail or solar-active thread for a fun surprise. Test-stitch on a fabric that matches the color of your garment to see if the colors produce the desired effect. Your embroidery software may allow you to simulate this by choosing thread colors and background color. Madeira makes a Color Definition Package that allows you to scan your fabric, then select Madeira thread colors to create an exact simulation. Have fun with thread colors. Unleash your creative spirit! Next issue: from the readers |
