Finding Saved Designs |
|
You remember downloading a certain
design, but now you can't find it on your computer. What to do?
It helps if you save downloaded designs into the folders provided in yesterday's StitchFun News, but if the design is not where you expected to find it, try a Windows search. You can specify the type of file (.zip or .pes or whatever) and as much of the filename as you can reasonably guess, then fill in the rest with an asterisk (this works as a wildcard). Or you can search for any file name that contains the word fragment that you specify. If you do not fine the design, or there are too many matching files to sort through, try a different set of parameters. Still no luck? Ask for help on an embroidery email list. If you describe the design, perhaps someone else will be able to tell you the name of the design. My favorite tool for finding designs is Embird's Iconizer plug-in. First you purchase Embird, which is a fine conversion and re-sizing tool. Then the Iconizer plug-in costs a little extra, but boy is it worth every penny! With Iconizer, when you are looking through folders on your computer, each design appears as a tiny image of itself. If you right-click on the file name, you can reveal information about the design (size, color changes) and see a larger image. Other programs may have similar tools, but this is the one with which I am familiar. Next issue: after the holidays |
