Test Stitch-Outs

If you test-stitch each design before using it on a garment or project, you probably have quite a collection of test stitch-outs. What are they good for? If you always use a clean, quality fabric, and leave a few inches of fabric around each design, you probably have some useful designs.

A single design can be used inside a plastic kit made to hold cross stitch. These can be found in craft stores or ordered online. Look for trivets, coffee mugs, luggage tags, coasters and key fobs. Just toss the cross stitch part and insert the embroidery design.

A collection of designs in similar themes or coordinating colors can be stitched together to create a patchwork tote bag, sewing machine cover or quilt. Your local quilt guild would likely appreciate your donation of embroidered squares, especially if they are stitched on 100% cotton fabric.
