Happy Lighting |
|
Have you ever grabbed a spool of black thread, only to discover later that you actually stitched that black cat in a very dark green? True colors can be hard to distinguish with indoor lighting, especially as our eyes age. The best lighting is full spectrum light, which closely simulates natural sunlight. There are several brands, such as Ott, Verilux or BlueMax. A little Googling will show you which bulbs produce the best light at the lowest cost. You will find replacement bulbs to fit fluorescent fixtures, regular lamps and also specialty lamps. Be sure to read the fine print, as not all fixtures can accept these bulbs. Lighting should be placed so that you are not working in your own shadow, nor looking at the glare from a bulb. The ideal place is directly above your work area. Full spectrum lighting will not only allow you to see colors better, it can keep you from squinting (which can give you headaches). If you suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (the winter blues), full spectrum lighting is often prescribed to bring relief. With full spectrum lighting, you will see colors better, your embroidery will look better, and you will be a happier embroiderer.
