Embroidered Soap |
|
There are two ways to embroider soap.
Neither method involves attempting to insert a bar of soap under your
embroidery machine needle.
Start with a plain bar of soap that has a smooth surface without markings. You can use the back of the soap, if that is smoother, or use a knife to gently shave away the impressed logo or brand name. Method one is the impractical but showy method. Embroider the design on water-soluble stabilizer. Gently tear away excess stabilizer. Moisten the back of the design with plain water, then press it into the face of the soap. The gooiness of the stabilizer will adhere the design to the soap. Wrap with plastic food wrap, folding the ends under and taping, if necessary. The design will appear to have been embroidered directly on the soap. Although quite showy, the design will get all messy once the soap is used. To prevent this, you can dip the face of the soap in melted paraffin to preserve the embroidery design, but you will lose some of the natural look of the thread. Method two is practical, but a bit less impressive. Embroider the design on tulle (very fine netting) with a layer of water-soluble stabilizer. Remove excess stabilizer. Wrap the soap with the tulle, centering the design on top of the soap. The ends of the tulle can be folded under and taped or you can tie the ends with ribbon and fluff up the tulle just like a piece of wrapped candy. If you embroider towels and toilet paper with coordinating designs, you can create quite a gift basket. Or use a miniature design on a hotel-size bar of soap and make a matching in-the-hoop clear view bag for travel. Next issue: tame the towel loopies from Mary Jane Allen of Perfect Little Stitches |
