Does Rayon Fade? |
|
Lots of home embroiderers shun rayon
thread because they have been told it will fade. I suppose if you use
hot water and bleach, the thread will fade, but if you use cold or warm
water for laundering, and color-safe bleach, the colors will stay
bright.
Rayon thread is made from natural fibers and is not as strong as polyester. It is slightly more prone to shredding and breaking while stitching and is not as durable for use where the embroidery will receive heavy wear (on the knee of a little boy's jeans?). Rayon thread will fade with repeated sun exposure. You should always keep your thread stash protected from sunlight and dust. An open thread rack on a sunny wall is bad. Cover each spool with a thread wrap (a layer of clear vinyl) and store in a drawer, a box or make a cover for that thread rack.
