Bare Feet |
|
When the weather turns warm, I love to
go barefoot. With sewing, this means being extra-vigilant about dropped
pins and needles. If possible, sew in a room without carpet. If you have
no choice, place a chair mat over the carpet. (I find it is easier to
move from embroidery machine to computer with a rolling chair.)
If you drop a pin or needle, or notice a pin missing from something you are sewing, stop everything and find that pin. My magnetic pin catcher is also a great pin finder. If I wave it over the floor, I will hear the pin hit the underside of the pin catcher. Used pins and needles (and even staples) can be disposed of by first placing them inside a small container. Some use a 35mm film can, but as these are not so common anymore, try an empty pill bottle. Keep it by the sewing machine and use it every time you change your needle. When the bottle is full, seal it up before throwing it away. This will prevent pins and needles from slipping out of garbage bags.
