Using 60 Weight Thread |
|
Most rayon or polyester embroidery
thread is 40 weight. The higher the weight number, the finer the thread,
so 60 weight thread is finer and 12 weight is thick and heavy. Most
designs are created to be embroidered with 40 weight thread. If you want
details to be more delicate, try stitching them with 60 weight thread.
Shading will blend in if you stitch it with 60 weight thread.
If you have re-sized a design, but find parts are too dense, 60 weight thread might be the perfect solution. Use a #65 needle (sometimes designated as a size 9) and adjust the tension (tighter for finer thread). If you want to stitch really small lettering, 60 weight thread is the solution. When creating the lettering, be sure to set the density higher than you would for 30 weight thread. With a little experimentation, you will discover the settings that work best with your software. In general, 60 weight thread will not provide adequate coverage for fill areas. Use it for details, shading, or designs specifically digitized for finer thread.
