Teach a Child |
|
Do you have a son or daughter, niece
or nephew, grandchild or neighbor who would like to learn to embroider?
You can have a wonderful one-on-one experience and delight a child by
teaching him or her to embroider.
Start with a quick, easy and inexpensive project that appeals to your young student. Let the child choose the design from ones you have already test-stitched, that use a limited number of thread colors and not too many stitches. Fascination can turn to boredom if the stitching takes too long! Try an in-the-hoop design, or embroider a small tote bag, pillowcase, PJs or even toilet paper! Let the child make the choices of thread colors, then show him/her how to thread the machine. You should probably do the hooping, as this is the step that takes the most experience. Depending upon the age of the child, you may want to only let him or her push the "magic button" that makes the machine stitch, or you could also let the child thread each color, clip threads, trim stabilizer and press the finished product. Have fun and be prepared to answer lots of questions! Next issue: classes, conventions and conferences from Mary Jane Allen of Perfect Little Stitches |
