Selling Embroidered Items |
|
If you want to sell embroidered items,
check the copyright statement that comes with each design, collection,
CD or card. Some copyrights allow you to sell an unlimited number of
items embroidered with the same design, and other do not allow sales at
all. If you are not sure you understand the copyright statement (or
cannot find it), email the designer and ask. Licensed characters
(Disney, Barbie) generally cannot be embroidered on items for sale.
Do you want to embroider on request or sell already embroidered items at a craft show? Be realistic about pricing. If you are embroidering on request, check the prices of local embroidery businesses. Your own prices should be similar, to be sure to cover the cost of thread, stabilizer, use of equipment, and something for your time. Visit some local craft shows and note prices of items similar to what you might sell. Can you make a profit at those prices? What types of items are generating the most interest? Embroider local plants or animals, or designs that illustrate what is special to your part of the world. Next issue: teach a child from Mary Jane Allen of Perfect Little Stitches |
