Favorite Tools

Penny wrote: I love my magnetic pincatcher. If I toss a pin in that general direction, the magnet grabs it. If a pin or needle falls on the floor, and my aging eyes can't find it, I pass the pincatcher over the floor until I hear the pin or needle hit the underside.

Carla wrote: I have a little plastic tool for pushing into corners when turning a seam right side out. The tip is pointy enough to do the job, but dull enough not to push through the fabric.

Kim wrote: I have a set of flat, plastic tools for pulling elastic through a casing. The elastic is fed through a slot at one end, and the other end is rounded to move easily through a casing. The set came with three different widths. No more safety pins getting stuck in the casing!

Jane wrote: Another of my favorite tools is a wooden skewer. I use it as an extension of my finger, when holding laces and fabrics flat as they approach the needle. VERY handy with heirloom techniques. I also use the skewer for certain in-the-hoop designs. With these designs there are often several layers of fabric, and slippage can easily occur. Slow the machine, and use the skewer to gently keep the upper layer in place if necessary. Skewers can be cut with heavy duty scissors so the length is more useful than the original length.
