Favorite Tools

Shane wrote: I bought a magnetic telescoping antenna from one of the notions catalogs. Great for retrieving my scissors, needles & pins, and especially bobbins when I drop them and they roll away under the furniture!

Janice wrote: I use Hoop Spreaders to help keep the outer hoop open while I insert the inner hoop. They are little springs that are inserted onto the tension screw between the two connecting edges of the hoop, giving the hoop more flexibility and allowing it to expand and contract more easily, making hooping easier.

Jane wrote: Another favorite tool is a GLUE STICK. I've just been using it to hold down the edges of WSS on the back of some twin-needle embroideries. Also, when I use my larger hoops, I often run a glue stick lightly around the back of the inner hoop, then press it on the fabric after making sure (using a template for the hoop) that it is aligned. This holds the fabric in place while I transfer it and the inner hoop to the outer hoop.

Katie wrote: My quilting friends taught me to use glass head pins. They are easier to work with than pins with flat metal heads and the iron will not melt the glass (don't try that with plastic heads!).

Wow! I received so many emails that there will be more next weekend. As long as you keep sending them in, I will publish them here. If you have questions about a particular tool, email me and I will forward your question to the original author. Thanks to everyone for sharing!
