Embroidering a Hat |
|
Don't be afraid to embroider a hat. Look for one with a soft crown. Turn the hat inside out to make it easier to embroider. Hoop a layer of cutaway stabilizer. If the hat has lining, you may want to baste the layers to make sure they stay aligned. Pin the hat to the stabilizer, pinning down the brim of the hat so it will not be in the way. Choose a small design (2 inches works well). Hats are a good place to use solar-active thread (they change from white to various colors in the sun, then go back to white indoors). If you will be embroidering a lot of hats (maybe for a family reunion?), see if there is a hat hoop available to fit your machine. The hat hoop has clamps to keep the embroidery area flat and to hold the rest of the hat out of the way.
