Selecting Thread Colors |
|
Using the wrong thread colors can ruin a design and the garment you embroider. Sometimes the color on the spool looks brighter or more muted when stitched on fabric. To avoid disaster, test-stitch to help select the best thread colors. Choose colors that will contrast sufficiently with the fabric and will be harmonious together. Even with a tone on tone look, you want to be able to see the stitches, but you don't want them to be too bold. Start with a swatch of fabric that is the same color as the garment. If you have a scrap of the actual fabric, that is even better. A piece of stabilizer under the fabric will make stitching easier. Using a decorative stitch in your sewing machine, stitch each thread color. You will be able to see which colors work and which ones do not.
