Happy Computer (part 2 - cleaning up)

If your hard drive is filling up, your computer may become sluggish. Sort through your files and delete anything you know you do not need. For example, if you download photos from a digital camera, then re-size them to create smaller files, be sure you are not also saving the larger, original image files.

Sort through old emails. The ones with pictures take up a lot of space on your hard drive. Be sure to clean out your Sent Email and Spam folders. Empty the Deleted Items folder.

All those downloaded embroidery designs (especially the ones that you may never use) are better stored on CD than your hard drive. Back up old stuff to CD (like photos of your 2006 vacation), then delete from your computer. Be sure to empty the Recycle Bin.

Now run a defrag. This reorganizes the files to make the best use of the available space. Your files will open more quickly after a defrag. Go to the Start menu (lower left corner of your computer screen), select All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter. Select your hard drive (usually the C Drive) and then click where is says "Defragment". If you have not run a defrag in a while, or if your computer is slow and full, it could take an hour or more.

You should defrag monthly, or after deleting a lot of files, or after installing new software, or any time your computer is running a bit slow. A clean computer is a happy computer!

other end of the clothespin and these little "fridgies" will hold
notes, lists, art projects, photos, special school papers, etc.
on the fridge or any metal surface for you. These designs can
also be used as regular appliqués by omitting a few steps.
